Message from the esp Chair

"The aim of the esp is to deliver a greater impact for employers and individuals to help the competitiveness of the East Midlands.

Since our creation, the esp has grown in strength and we have already seen the positive impact of our actions on the people in the region.

We will continue to improve our engagement with employers, aligning our activities so that our products and services help businesses increase their competitiveness and productivity.  We will also ensure that individuals are supported to improve their skills."

Jeff Moore, esp Chair

Launched in June 2005, the esp was created to meet the challenges set in the Government's National Skills Strategy.  Regional Skills Partnerships (RSPs) were created to align the strategies and funding of public sector strategic bodies involved in employment and skills activity.  Their aim is to deliver greater impact and added value to employers and individuals, and to increase the competitiveness of the region as a whole.

The esp strategy for action directly responds to two of the themes outlined in the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) for the East Midlands 2006-2020, "A Flourishing Region":

  • Raising Productivity

  • Achieving Equality

The esp is committed to working together to drive action, to achieve the vision:

"more people into better jobs in better businesses".
